Buy at home, buy in Oregon and buy American and thus keep the dollars circu lating nearby where you will get another chance at them. Thus will provide greater opportunities for work and create a g reat er home m arket. if W hen For instance. you you are buy, going think! to buy an article and it is made here or near here insist on the product that furnishes labor „«■ home, t,oina « w t the h e t tax »v h iir d e n s a nd at helps » to a A pay burdens and in other words keeps the wheels of trade and society moving at home. Buying away from home and not giving any thought to the value of keeping your dollars circulat ing near at hand is like digging the bank away from underneath you, which will plunge you into the w aters of despair. In this week Oregon is going to take stock of herself and m anufacturers, re tailers and consumers are asked to test critically the production of Oregon — w hether from farm , forest or factory— to learn first hand th at Oregon quality has no superior and th at it can be purchased economically Every loyal citizen Of Hillsboro and _ . < « f . . . . . . . W ashington county should keep in mind and insist on the products for instance from such firms as Ray-Maling. Carnation condenser, Perfection Bakery, Home Laun dry, W est Woods Novelties, L. B. Plenty of trial of these local products prom pts the w riter to say th a t the quality is unexcelled. W hen you buy the products of these plants and other Oregon concerns and patronize local stores you are helping vour neighbor and yourself to a better standard of living. J t IS one way of prac- ticinp the Golden Rule. Think of w hat it means in building up a G reater Oregon. More Talks Would Help President Roosevelt gave another of his famous fireside talks to the people of the nation Sunday and told of his hopes for the work relief program and outlined the necessity J for certain legislation before B Congress. These talks are a great help to the president in keening the people with him in his courageous endeavors against w ant and suffering in spite of the opposition from the privilege seeking group th at held sway for so long. The talks should come more often because they help to keep the president and the people closer together. He shows . a splendid ability and un- - .. , ilerstanding in th jse fireside chats. 1 hey are interesting and to the point. F u rth er and in contrast with many public speakers . 4. 4. i 1 :hey are not too lo n g . The president linked the work relief drive with his social security program and .aid the protect, -hould be oaefol. th at a large proportion of the money must be spent in wages, th a t a considerable part of the cost be returned to the federal government, that the money expended i l l each project should be actually spent dur- ing the next fiscal year, th a t the projects should give employment to persons on re lief, and th at the project should be located in relief areas in relation to the number of workers on relief rolls. He called for the extension of NRA, elimination of un necessary utility holding companies, enact ment of a new banking bill, and passage of the economic security program. If the people of this nation continue their fine support of their chosen leader a more happy and contented American people will be the result. Neighborliness Appreciated Large attendance of Hillsboro people at the annual dinner given by the people of Laurel is a fitting testimony imony to the neighborliness and hospitality of Laurei folk. Local people are made to feel very much a t home and they like to attend these annual get-togethers. How could they help it with the fellowship th at ex ists and the exceptionally fine dinners pre pared by the good cooks of Laurel. The spirit of co-operation and team work of our neighbors is clearly shown in this enjoyable and appreciated affair. Friendships made and renewed there add much to the enjoym ent of living. After all friends are one of life’s greatest rew ard t. It strikes us th at with the brains and resources in this country and < liminating the elem ent of selfishness the unemploy m ent problem could be sausidcioiily worked out. , . z D ollar 311 hour wage set as pay lor carpenters arpenter at Longview, Wash.
